Preschool was at our house today. We talked about our hands and all the things they can do.
Most of the things that Jacob does with his hands come with an almost immediate "Oh no, Jacob!" and then "Soh-ee Mommy." I swear I really do try to watch him - but it is amazing what this kid can do in the time it takes to throw a load of laundry in the washer, put away a bag of groceries or empty the dishwasher! Here's a list of a few since Monday.
* Banged on the bathroom door with trains - leaving red & blue colored dents in it
* Banged on the TV (7 months old, expensive, big, LCD flatscreen) with a wand - cracking the inside of it. They're coming to look at it tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure having your kid pound on it isn't covered by the warranty. I should mention the one it replaced was 10 years old & never touched by the girls!
* Gave Jane a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie that she ate most of (she couldn't believe her luck) and spread the rest into the rug.
* Banged on the laundry basket with the phone (caught this one before he broke it.)
* Gave Jane the pincushion from my sewing table. Very helpfully pulled out a bunch of the pins for her too. (OK, this one I take responsibility for. I was looking through the Sundance catalog, and deciding which clothes I would buy if I were 20lbs lighter.)
This is not an exhaustive list from this week, - but you get the picture. Fortunately, he also gives lots of great hugs with them and also signs "sorry" as he's saying it - making it pretty cute. He doesn't mean to be trouble - he's just very, very busy & curious. I'm really hoping he grows out of it & that our house is still standing when he does.

I'm laughing so hard right now.
i love that Sundance catalog! I spent near an hour pouring over it yesterday. While I was doing that, my 3 year old was using her hands to pluck the keys off the spare laptop!
holy cow- so keeping the hard toys away from the room with mike's flatscreen is the most wise idea i have ever had afterall? He sounds just like zane.
you mean girls aren't like this?! maybe I AM glad I had a boy first.
Girls are like this. I can guarantee it. I have so much empathy for you.
Sorry to tell ya Lindsey - my girls were NOT like this. They got into trouble & made mess, but they didn't break things the way he does - he's just so hard on things. My friend Melissa's girls are hard on stuff too though. Maybe you'll be lucky with Fritz!
Funny, I just read on Liz's blog about all the havoc Zane wreaked. Little boys! (And Lily) I'm just glad we have really cheap furniture/appliances here.
This all sounds soooo familiar. How old is Jacob now? I have one who is turning 5 that is finally leaving the stage of destruction--for the most part. As you say, it is amazing what they can do in a matter of minutes--our worst was he painted my entire bathtub and several things in my closet with blue, very blue, paint. I am still a bit traumatized by this one--it was about a year ago. love your blog. check us out at theloudhouse
