THANK GOODNESS IT'S FEBRUARY

I am not a big fan of January. After the colour and whir of the holidays it's just one big long let-down. February lifts my spirits - it's Valentine's Day and who doesn't get excited about telling those around us we love them. It's also my birthday, AND my kids get a week off school. Something about it being the only month with fewer days also makes it seem special to me. This month we make our traditional valentine homemade lollipops, and caramels and so my house spends many days smelling like sugar - aah!

If we're lucky we'll get a snowstorm, and the kids will have a snowday where they'll freeze outside making a snowman and sledding down our back steps, but come inside to the warm fire, hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls. I confess - I signed up to be on the school phone tree mostly so I'd be one of the first to know when it's a snowday - I get just as excited as the kids!

I also think you really need February's love to brace yourself for March. March is one long gray blah. No days off school, no good holidays (unless you're Irish) - it's just yucky. But if you make it through you have April - the weather starts to warm up (not in NY - not here until May) and you know you're on the downhill run to spring. So here's to enjoying February, getting through March and looking forward to April.

When's your birthday? Let's do something fun to celebrate!

I hate January, too. I used to love March until I moved to NY. My birthday is on the first day of spring, so it was always fun to welcome in warmer weather that way. Not so here. It's always raining and gray, like you said, in March.

We've been glued to the tv whenever they've said we're going to have a storm--just hoping even for a delay. Nothing yet. Not one blasted snowflake that sticks long enough to even make the road slippery. I love snow days. They have a warm spot in my heart because we never got them in UT. Apparently everyone knows how to drive in the snow there and the world doesn't stop when it snows.

This is the best description of February I've seen yet. This is EXACTLY how I feel. Thank you!
