Beans

We borrowed this book from the library in spring. Jacob loved it, and we read it over & over again. Then we renewed it and read some more, renewed it & read every day ... until I thought we should just buy our own copy - which we did.

The the kids thought it would be great to grow our own beans, like in the book. I've never grown beans before - but thought we'd give it a shot.

We wrapped them in wet paper towel, until they began to sprout and then put them in cups on the kitchen windowsill.

Emily grew 2 - kidney & pinto. Jacob planted a black bean. I have no idea how they'll work out - or if they'll die while we are away, but hopefully the kids will get to see at least a couple of new beans grow.
Jane didn't want to grow a bean, she wanted to grow peas (she loves peas.) The first one didn't come up, so we planted a new one. It's lagging behind the beans and is very small - just the way Jane likes it. She calls it her "baby pea."

We moved them to the garden last week. I'm late on everything in the veggie garden this year. I wasn't sure I was even going to do one with our trip - but decided I couldn't resist. We usually harvest well into fall, so I am hoping we'll still enjoy herbs, tomatoes, peppers and zucchini - and maybe beans - when we get back.

If I think on in the morning, I'll take a picture of the bean Eleanor planted in a pot in school and brought home. We're useless with plants so can't believe it's actually grown and is flowering. Haven't a clue what type of bean it is!

Hi tania,Lynda Wilson here. I just have to tell you. Your blog excites me!! Once a week I probably have a look at a few blogs including leisa's and then I ALWAYS check up on your blog. I am just so impressed with all the things you do with your children. You just seem so wonderful with them. I would love to have your energy as a mum. So I thought it was about time I owned up to my secret affair with your blog. I am determined to plan some things with the kids these holidays. First stop ...... some fire truck somewhere in Penrith!! he he.
We are currently staying in June's house so Ill have to think locally. keep up the great work. luv lyn.

Lynda - glad to have you as a reader! Of course, I rarely post the awful days .. the one's where the house is a mess, the kids hit each other and there's yelling ....

Still, we all try as Mum's and I like to share our ideas & activities. I learn so much from other people, I hope someone will get a good idea from me too.
