Emergency

Does anyone know how to get dark purple nail polish out of carpet, or off a painted wall? At first I didn't want to try acetone (nail polish remover), because I thought it would take off the paint. Then I got desperate, and tried it - it didn't take off the paint OR the nail polish. AGH! A lot came out of the carpet, but with acetone, but there's still a lot there.

hey Tan, My Mom is the stain master and even she has nothing good for you--what an awful mess! You can try paint thinner-but who knows what that will do to your carpet! If it is a shag you could cut some and try to hide it a bit! Good luck--Sterling put red all over our bathroom cupboards--unfortunately there are still some remains of that disaster!

Eeeek! I just did the same thing to our hallway rug. It was in the middle of the night (of course, when else do I have time to paint my toenails?) and I tried to get it out with acetone. I got it to fade some, but there is definitely still a pink cloud there.

Lane, who knows his pigments, tells me there's nothing we can do. In fact, he tells me when I rubbed the acetone on the stain I was basically just distributing it all over the area.

I'm sorry for your rug. Sigh.

I had a similar problem with hot pink nail polish on my carpet. I tried FOLEX carpet cleaner and after 2-3 scrubs...it's completely gone. You can get FOLEX at Target, on the bottom shelf usually.
